Andrew Newberg, M.D., is Director of Research at the Myrna Brind Center for Integrative Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Medical College. He is also Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He has pursued neuroimaging research that includes the study of aging and dementia, epilepsy, and other neurological and psychiatric disorders.
He has published numerous articles and chapters and has presented his research both nationally and internationally. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Newberg has been particularly involved in the study of mystical and religious experiences as well as the more general mind/body relationship. He is the Director of the University of Pennsylvania Center for Spirituality and the Mind. He is the author of a new book entitled Born to Believe: God, Science, and the Origin of Ordinary and Extraordinary Beliefs.
He has also co-authored the best selling book Why God Won’t Go Away: Brain Science and the Biology of Beliefas well as The Mystical Mind: Probing the Biology of Belief. He has appeared on Good Morning America, Nightline, ABC World News Tonight and has been profiled in print media including Newsweek, the New Scientist, and the Los Angeles Times.
